Seaside Style – in Britain/Where to stay
CLAREMONT HOUSE HOTEL is tucked away on a residential road near Hove seafront. Even thought it is extremely stylised – black-and-white tiling on the floor, bright red doorframes – and is home to more pieces of modern art than your average art gallery – there are only 12 rooms so there is a real homely and intimate feel. This is only emphasised by the warm welcome you’ll receive from Andy and Tracy Hill who really can’t do enough to make sure your stay is enjoyable.
It soon became obvious why (The) Claremont has received VisitBritain’s five-diamond award for outstanding accommodation. Each of the bedrooms has been individually styled to the highest standard, with huge beds (some four-poster), comfortable furniture and wide screen TV.
Little touches like the bottle of wine on arrival, luxury Gilchrist & Soames toiletries and huge bathrobes all add to the experience, and in the morning prepare to be coaxed downstairs by the smell of bacon and the promise of a delicious breakfast.
